Pete and I were talking about this, and I said that really, anything that changed someone’s mind about discrimination (against any group, not just gays) is fine by me. And it must be a relief for his son to know that, rather than disowning him or trying to “cure” him, his dad accepted him and changed his mind about homosexuality.

He is to be commended, of course. The problem is that it took someone close to him to give him any sort of empathy. That’s the point of the cartoon.
