Republicans were pleased today when Senator Cruz was replaced by a wacky and lovable inflatable promotional tube today.
“Look at him, isn’t he great?” said Senator McCain as the tube fluttered and bounced around behind the Senate podium. “It’s much more fun to watch than Senator Cruz, and accomplishes the same thing he did without having to worry about bathroom breaks.”
When some complained that the tube was not appropriate, supporters pointed out that both the tube and the Texas Senator were very similar, since they were both brainless and filled with hot air.
Let’s recap.
What we now call “Obamacare” was first proposed by the very conservative Heritage Foundation.
During the Clinton administration, the very conservative Newt Gingrich proposed adopting it instead of what they then called “Hillarycare.”
When very conservative Bob Dole ran for President, adopting it was part of the Republican platform.
Later, the very conservative Mitt Romney pushed it in Massachusetts, where it proved to work well and be fairly popular among the citizens of that state.
Now, very conservative people are calling it “socialism” (it clearly isn’t) and claiming that it is the worst idea in the entire world. They of course have no alternative plan, because Obamacare was their alternative plan before.
Just don’t fool yourself: If a Republican were President today, they would be pushing this plan proudly as their own (which it is). But because it was promoted by President Obama, it is clearly the one thing that will destroy our country.
I am constantly amazed by the gigantic hypocrisy we see on the Republican side concerning this issue.
There are some ridiculous commercials out now urging young people to “opt out” of Obamacare.
The commercials feature a huge Uncle Sam puppet about to give a woman a gynecological exam.
Because, you know, if there’s one thing Republicans are against, it’s having the government force women to have unnecessary gynecological examinations, am I right, ladies?
But more importantly, it’s the message here: Please, they say, break the law. Don’t buy insurance.
Really?
Can you imagine what they’d say if there was an ad saying “Please don’t allow the evil government to force you to buy car insurance!”?
Apparently they have run out of options, because the law is here and it’s staying. So the only thing left to do is tell people to ignore it.
Yeah, use that as an excuse when you’re paying the fine for disobeying it. “But your honor, my Senator told me to disobey this law!” See how well that works, and then get back to me. I could use the work.
As we saw in yesterday’s blog entry, Senator Cruz spoke for many hours about how important it is to not vote for closure and instead to stand against it in order to defund Obamacare. He was quite serious about this.
Well, fortunately, today, he met his enemy, in the form of a certain Senator Cruz, who voted for closure despite everything Senator Cruz had said the day earlier.
Good thing we have senators like Senator Cruz who are willing to stand up to terrible senators like Senator Cruz.
