While I’ve not yet read the book which the Coen brothers movie is based from, but I remember a line from their movie ‘No country for old men’ where the sheriff says something about how certain country sheriff’s used to pride themselves about not needing to enforce the law with a gun.
So you’re right – it was a long while ago our society would allow sheriff Andy Griffith to do it that way. 😦
