Obama: Always wrong

While I agree with the criticism of Obama that says he should have gone to France, it’s not because Fox News is telling me I should be thinking that way.

As anyone with a brain should realize, Fox News would be criticizing Obama no matter what he did.  This meme I found this morning says it best.10292546_345735465618252_1548211399035240147_n

As we know by the way they are criticizing Obama because gas prices are too low, it doesn’t matter what Obama does — Fox News will find a way to make it look bad. (His wife once said we should all drink more water to be healthy and they attacked her for saying that. I am not making this up.)

The content of the Cartoons isn’t the Issue

Some people who have commented on the killing of the cartoonists in France have pointed out how terribly offensive those cartoons were, not just to Muslims but also to women, gays, and liberals. “It’s like waving a red flag in front of a bull,” they say, with the unspoken implication that these cartoonists knew what they were getting into and as such, probably should have censored themselves and then they would still be alive.6a00d83451df0c69e200e54f1f57c28834-800wi

Well, a bull analogy is appropriate, but instead it should be about the bull’s smelly by-product.

Free speech is annoying. It is obnoxious and insulting, and someone will always be offended.

Tough. No one deserves to be attacked like that for what they say. Even the idiots at Fox News have every right to spout nonsense, insults, and lies.

We have to protect speech we hate or else the concept of “free speech” is meaningless. Speech we all agree with doesn’t need protection.

I admire the French here. They have stood up to these murderers, and have said that they won’t give in. The magazine is continuing to print without any change in their editorial process.

Sony Pictures could learn something from them.

The French Cartoonist Massacre

The murder of cartoonists in France points out again the difference between Christian and Muslim extremists.  When people criticize Christians, the Christians scream that they are being persecuted and otherwise make ridiculous claims that anyone who questions their beliefs or makes fun of them are intolerant or evil. But Jesus Christ, they don’t go out and murder the people who said it!

While the vast majority of Muslims in civilized democratic countries do not agree with such actions, the fanatics from the more militant branch of the “religion of peace” are still stuck in the middle ages.  (Let’s not beat around the bush here:  Christians did these same sort of terrible things hundreds of years ago as well.)  I am happy to see so many French Muslims decrying this and denouncing this action.

But I can’t explain such hatred, ignorance, and evil.  So, since I clearly love editorial cartoons, I’m going to post some of my favorites concerning this tragedy.

NY Cops don’t arrest, city does not turn into anarchy

The police in New York city are upset that their boss (the Mayor) said that he warned his black son about racism that he may encounter when dealing with police.  They are having a “work stoppage” where they vow only to arrest “when they have to.”

When they have to.NYC Mayor Police Graduation

Let’s pause there for a minute.  “When they have to” clearly means that previously, they had been arresting people who didn’t have to be arrested — People who could have been given a warning or perhaps not even stopped and searched in the first place.

And what has been the result of this work stoppage? Well, nothing really, although if you live in East New York (which is predominately black) you probably aren’t getting arrested for smoking a joint and now you’re on the same level as Park Slope (which is predominately white), which saw 13 marijuana arrests last year as opposed to over 500 in East New York.  And no, it’s not because the yuppies and hipsters who live in Park Slope smoke 500% less marijuana.

People who got arrested for dancing in the subway has gone down from over 240 to zero, and so far, we have not had an overrun of spontaneous dance break-outs disrupting rush hour.

New York’s famous “Broken Windows” policy held that the police needed to enforce and punish even the smallest infraction because it helped to prevent the bigger crimes.  This is the policy that led to illegal random searches of young black and hispanic men and made some police think it was perfectly fine to take someone who illegally sold individual cigarettes and strangle them.  Treating every person who littered as if they were major criminals only made the average citizen in New York fear and distrust their police force — the exact opposite of what we should think of when we consider the police.

Did crime drop once the “Broken Windows” policy went into effect?  Yep.  Just like it dropped in every other city that didn’t have that same policy.  Studies have found no correlation between the two.  And now, with the police force refusing to make arrests for “Broken Windows” crimes, and it having no apparent change to the city, we have even more evidence that it doesn’t work.

So thanks, police!  You’ve made some sociologists very happy by confirming their data.

Louis Gohmert’s Stupidest Comments

Although Congress’ IQ rose tremendously upon the departure of Michelle Bachmann, Louis Gohmert has been doing his best to push it into the single digits.  What really excites me today, though, is his announcement that he will be challenging Boehner for Speaker because Boehner is just too radical.  Why, he actually even accomplished a few things in the last term!gohmert

Seriously, this is a fight worth watching, as the Republican party implodes and turns even more into the “Stupid Party”.  I can’t wait to see what happens.

But for now, allow me to point out Louis Gohmert‘s Top Ten Stupidest Comments.  (And it wasn’t difficult to come up with ten):

  1. Women are having “terror babies” here in the US, then sending the kids off to be trained as terrorists so in twenty years or so they can come back here legally and kill us all!
  2. Radical Islamists are entering America by posing as Latinos (because, really, who can tell these dark-skinned people apart?).
  3. Gay marriage clearly will lead to the legalization of bestiality and pedophilia.
  4. The Muslim Brotherhood has infiltrated and runs the White House.
  5. Vaccines are evil, not because of worries about autism, but because they will allow for people to live longer against God’s will, and soon the world’s population will be at a staggering 700 million!  (Note:  It’s currently about 900% larger than 700 million.)
  6. The Aurora, Colorado gun massacre was God’s will, punishing us for keeping God out of the classroom.
  7. Gays in the military is a terrible idea because they’ll be so busy giving each other massages that they won’t be able to defend us.
  8. Obama’s immigration policy is the real “War on Women” because it allows immigrants to come over the border and rape our women.
  9. The Keystone pipeline is important because it allows caribou to have a warm place to mate (because for the millions of years prior to a pipeline, they never mated.  Oops!  Sorry.  Gohmert doesn’t believe in science.  Make that 4,000 years.).
  10. “The attorney general will not cast aspersions on my asparagus!” (Yes, he said that on the floor of Congress.)

So go to it, Republicans!  Make Gohmert the symbol of your party.  We won’t mind.

EDIT:  This was written in 2015. He’s said a lot more stupid things since then.
